We are continuing to push for the Lymphedema Treatment Act to either be included in the year-end legislative package or receive a Senate vote as a stand-alone bill. This week, members of our Board and select advocates will be in DC meeting with Senate offices, in order to do everything possible to get the LTA across the finish line before this Congress wraps up.
Your continued calls to your Senate offices will help increase our impact and chances of success! This Friday, December 16th, was the scheduled final day for this Congress. However, it is now widely anticipated that the Senate will now stay in session through next week, due to delays in finalizing the year-end legislative package.
Thank you to everyone who has already called, and congratulations to the winners of our first round garment drawing: Ken from Minnesota, Janet from Georgia, and Joni from California. We are in the process of contacting the winners for our second and final round of garment drawings. But the real prize for all of us will be getting the LTA signed into law, so that all patients will finally have insurance coverage for their compression garments!
Your phone calls are ensuring that the Lymphedema Treatment Act is one of the bills being considered for year-end passage, and every single phone call counts – literally! Offices tally the number of calls received on each topic and report that to the Senator. So please, call again this week, and ask as many other people across the country as you can to do the same!
Tips on what to say during your call are below. However, we highly recommend that you use our Senate Call Action Alert, which enables you to log your call. It is very helpful for us to be able to track how many calls each office has received. If you haven’t used one of our call alerts before, here is a quick video tutorial.
Please keep the calls coming – we are so close, we can’t let up now! Most offices have voicemail, so you call any time, day or night. Thank you!

CALL SCRIPT & TIPS:
- “I am a constituent calling to ask that the Senate please pass S.1315, the Lymphedema Treatment Act, before the end of the year. This bill was passed by the House last month. This issue is important to me because… ”
- If your Senator is a cosponsor on the list below, mention that and say thank you. REMEMBER – during our House vote, 76 members who were not cosponsors voted yes, but 5 who were cosponsors voted no, so outreach to every Senator is important, regardless of cosponsor status.
- If you are a constituent of Senator Cantwell (our lead sponsor) or Senator Grassley (our co-lead sponsor), it’s still very important that they hear from you. Thank them for their leadership on the bill and urge them to do everything possible to make sure it is passed this year!
- If you are leaving a voicemail, include your name and zip code.
