I have breast cancer and had a double mastectomy 2 years ago. I have triple negative breast cancer. Only my left side was affected by the cancer, but I opted to have both breasts removed, as I didn’t want to take a chance on a recurrence or transference to the other side. After 2 years, all of a sudden, my left arm started to swell. Anyway, I am experiencing a burning pain in my left arm that makes it very difficult to sleep at night. Thru pain medication and my chemo doctor’s help, it looks like I might be on the road to recovery and some nights where I can sleep undisturbed. I wear a compression sleeve and a glove to help keep the swelling down and do exercises to help with the flexibility of my arm.
This pain in my arm is very severe and has limited my usage of the arm. I cannot hold a book with my left hand without having pain in the arm, and cannot reach things above my head because of it. I was told that Medicare and my health insurance would not cover the compression garmets. I would like to see these compression garmets included in the insurance coverages for people such as myself. |
