Letter from a Member of Congress to a Lymphedema Advocate

by Heather on June 21, 2021

The below letter was received by Janyce, one of our advocates in Tennessee. Janyce has been routinely calling and emailing her members’ offices, and last week she got this wonderful personal letter from her Representative.

I asked her if we could share it because it beautifully illustrates the difference your outreach makes. It also demonstrates that every office is different, and some take more work than others. Despite sending the exact same communications to her Senators, they have yet to cosponsor.

But she’s not giving up on them, and we hope you’ll also remain persistent in contacting your members who haven’t cosponsored yet. As the letter states: “As of June 3, 2021, there have been over 8,606 legislative measures introduced in Congress, and it can often take a special kind of advocacy for one to stand out from the many priorities being considered each day.”

Please continue to reach out weekly to your members of Congress who have not cosponsored the Lymphedema Treatment Act yet in this Congress. You’ll find everything you need at these links:

The email form will send a thank-you message to any member already cosponsoring the bill, so you can use it regardless. And calls to non-cosponsoring offices are especially important. Thank you for making the LTA stand out from the many priorities being considered each day!
