Lymphedema and the LTA in the News Across the Nation!

Last week, local television stations across the country featured a story about newly released  research that further emphasizes the urgent need to pass the Lymphedema Treatment Act! 

As one of the interviewees, I was thrilled for the opportunity to talk about why the LTA is so important for cancer survivors, plus those who, like my son, have lymphedema from other causes. This news story has already been distributed to over 60 Scripps media outlets, and will be featured on their digital streaming network this week.

We encourage you to contact your local news and urge them to do a story during these final weeks of Lymphedema Awareness Month. Most local media networks are eager to cover an issue when a community member is deeply impacted and willing to be interviewed.

REMINDER: If you haven’t yet, please send a handwritten note to your Representative in Congress this month, urging them to pass the Lymphedema Treatment Act this year. This is our key action item for March! Handwritten communication is increasingly rare, and that’s exactly why it gets more notice, and why we are asking you to take this action. The simple instructions are below.

MARCH ACTION ITEM INSTRUCTIONS: 

1.) Find your Representative on the chart below and click on his or her name to visit their website. Bills usually move through the House of Representatives before the Senate, so that is why we are sending notes to the House first.

2.) Locate the mailing address for your Representative’s district office. Usually, this is on a page titled “Office Locations” or “Contact Me,” or is sometimes at the bottom of the website. If there is more than one district office, pick the one nearest to you. We are asking you to send it to the district office rather than the DC office, because mail sent to DC offices undergoes long delays due to security screening. 

3.) Your message should urge your Representative to help pass the Lymphedema Treatment Act (H.R.3630/S.1315) this year. Explain why this is important to you. Thank him or her for being a cosponsor of the bill if they already are, or ask them to join as a cosponsor if they are not. Feel free to include photos and speak from your heart. Personal appeals are the most compelling, and that’s why we are providing instructions , but not a template.

4.) Mail your letter, card, or postcard to the selected district office. Make sure to include your full address so that they can see you are a constituent.Thank you!
