We are very excited to share that on Wednesday, June 8th the Lymphedema Treatment Act was placed on the Consensus Calendar!
The Consensus Calendar is an alternative route to advance House bills with strong bipartisan support. Only bills with a supermajority (290 or more cosponsors) are eligible, and the Lymphedema Treatment Act is one of only five bills to be placed on the Consensus Calendar thus far in this Congress. You can read more about the Consensus Calendar rules here.
This is a huge milestone. The House is required to consider one bill from the Consensus Calendar each week they are in session after it has been on the calendar for 25 legislative/in-session days. However, House leadership has the option of moving the bill through regular order during the 25 legislative day period, so it is possible action could occur sooner.
Please stay tuned for how else you can help. Getting your members of Congress on board as cosponsors is an important first step (see the list below), and what made placement on the Consensus Calendar possible, but what happens next is even more important. We have to get the bill through successful votes in the House and Senate by the end of this year in order for it to become law, otherwise we will need to start over in the new Congress next January.
Thank you and congratulations! We couldn’t have made it this far without you, and we can’t get the bill across the finish line without you. There is still much to do and your engagement over the next 6 months will be crucial.
