In 1992 at the age of 33, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I had a modified radical hysterectomy, part of my pelvic wall removed and the removal of 23 lymphnodes bilaterally in my groin. In 1997, I was officially diagnosed with Secondary Lymphedema in my left leg. I began noticing symptoms 3 months after my cancer surgery and continued for 5 years before knowing what it was that I had or able to receive treatment.
Instead of rewriting history here, I invite you to visit my website www.mandalastudioofyoga.com and download an article I have written about my cancer but mainly lymphedema journey in hopes to help and inspire other lymphedema patients.
It is my personal passionate mission to create lymphedema awareness. Not only am I a cancer survivor, but I very successfully manage my lymphedema and have created “my new normal” life. Yoga is a huge contributing factor to this success which is why I wrote the article, opened the studio and have created “Lymphflow Yoga: Let your Lymph flow” to educate and help others like myself create their “new normal” life as well as bring awareness into the community.
