Coverage Victory with BCBS!

by Heather on January 31, 2024

We are so pleased to share this message from one of our advocates:

“I had shared the garment coverage with my Benefits Director at work for her to share with our BCBS representative. At first, BCBS balked at increasing their coverage, but my Benefits Director didn’t give up and ultimately BCBS met the coverage of the LTA! This means that I’ll be able to get nighttime garments covered where before I paid $2,500 out of pocket! I’m not sure if this is my company only or BCBS of Massachusetts only, but I did want to share, so folks would know that they can push this issue with their companies and private health insurers!”

If you have any insurance other than traditional Medicare and haven’t yet contacted them about adopting the same comprehensive coverage, everything you need to do so is on our Take Action page. You can also click on the template letter below.

If you need additional information, the following pages on our website pertain to the new coverage:

If you are a provider or supplier and still have questions after reviewing the above information, every Monday from 3:00-4:00pm Eastern, CMS hosts a live chat.

Additionally, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has scheduled two more webinars to answer questions about this new benefit category. The webinars are also intended for providers and suppliers, but anyone can register.

  • Register for the webinar on February 13th or March 12th, and when you do so you will have the option to submit questions in advance.

We are not the only lymphedema organization, but we are the only organization focused on insurance coverage for treatment. If you are able to make a donation to support our continued work, we would be so grateful. Thank you!
