Important Progress Update on Our Bill!

by Heather on October 19, 2019

This week, our House sponsor, Representative Jan Schakowsky, offered the Lymphedema Treatment Act as an amendment to H.R.3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019! Video of her and Representative Carter speaking about the LTA during the H.R.3 hearing can be seen here.

As anticipated, the amendment was withdrawn, because the LTA is not a drug pricing issue, but these are important steps toward  passage. You may recall that our Senate sponsor, Maria Cantwell, followed the same procedure in July, during the Senate Finance Commitee’s hearing on their drug pricing bill.

If passed into law, drug pricing legislation is expected to result in significant savings – money that can then be allocated to passing other bills that have an associated cost, such as ours. All bills with a cost are much more difficult to pass because they must have a “pay-for.” By taking these actions our sponsors are staking a claim on a portion of those anticipated saving to pay for the LTA, and demonstrating their commitment to get our bill passed during this Congress!

We are very excited about this progress and hope you will continue to support our work by participating in our raffle. There are less than two weeks left to make a donation and be entered to win one of three custom compression garments. 100% of your donation goes toward our operating expenses, so that we can continue to advocate for passage of the LTA.

Thank you for your support!
