Proof positive – the power of your advocacy!

by Heather on February 24, 2018

This past Thursday, February 22nd, one of our FL advocates named Ellen attended a Town Hall meeting with her Congressman, Francis Rooney. Her goal was to ask him to cosponsor the Lymphedema Treatment Act.

She was one of the lucky people chosen to read her question. You can see the two minute video clip of her doing so in this post on our Facebook page.

Less than 24 hours later, by Friday afternoon, Congressman Rooney had cosponsored the bill! Not only that, he also talked to the one other FL Congressman who had yet to cosponsor (Gus Bilirakis) and got him to sign on as well!

To top it all off, when Ellen checked her voice mail after work on Friday, she had a message from Congressman Rooney himself, thanking her for bringing the bill to his attention and saying how pleased he was to now be supporting it!

All of this, because Ellen took the time to attend one Town Hall meeting. You can do this too! Visit your Congress members’ websites and social media accounts to check for events, or go to the Town Hall Project website and enter your zip code.

Once you find one, you can prepare for it in the same way you would a district meeting, information for which is on our website.

When we speak up it makes a difference!
